I admit to being a cat lover but I also like big, cuddly dogs. This one is just beautiful and extra cuddly. This grooming session took five hours and he looks so different and much more comfortable.

I so wanted one of these. They are lovely, but very expensive. And apparently, they are escape artists.
What a shame that the owners let him get in that state.
Wow! He's a gorgeous, gentle boy.. Love him.

Rocky, they don't have a great reputation - but I think that they are just difficult to train. Our cross Bullmastiff used to scale a really high fence to escape and go to the local primary school and help the kids eat their packed lunches.

Tilly, I haven't had a dog with an undercoat so I don't know what happened. I think he was found as a stray and was very matted so was shaved.

Patsy - imagine trying to feed him. The good thing about huge dogs is that they are usually lazy.

I really cannot understand why she bathed him before grooming him - that is the basic rule of dog grooming because if you bath a matted coat it just gets into a tighter mat. You would try brushing in sections first and only clip when the mats cannot be penetrated.

Sadly this is what all groomers have to go through every single day to a lesser extent with all the cockapoo and labradoodle type coats where the owners don't realise how much work is needed and because they are told they are non moulting so don't need grooming.

Lankeela, I take it she washed him first for a reason. She sometimes shaves and animal before the bath and sometimes after - it depends on the circumstances.
The end result is a lot like our neighbours cat but he has to be sedated for anyone to get near him. He will not be brushed, combed or trimmed when conscious without inflicting serious damage.

Ends up looking like a small lion with fur-topped ankle boots.
I don't think the owners *let* him get that way. It seems obvious that that's just not the type of coat that can do ok with a daily brushing. And bless her for doing it for free...it would cost a fortune otherwise. The removed coat looks like a rug!
Beautiful beast. ♡

Douglas, I hope that you don't laugh at him. He will need to use suntan lotion during the summer - you could video them trying to get it on him. ☺
Douglas, that's what my deaf cat Caspar looked like when he had to be shaved...in fact, it's called a lion cut.
I couldn't afford him, wolf!
I wonder how much food he gets through?..
I didn't realise he was a stray. Does it say so on the video?
What a lovely face .
What a lovely dog.
Question Author
Tilly, they called him Wally because they met him at the Great Wall of China.

Good job he is so good natured, Princess Merlin would have killed the groomer. She had long silky fur and hated being brushed.
I bet Wally has been groomed like that before - he was so well behaved. The breed has a double coat for a reason. It originated in a very cold climate as an out of doors guard dog. Well done, groomer.
