12 Answers
Anyone know how i go about doing this? Neighbour allowed us to have their cat as it was always at ours and we fed it and of course fell in love with us, her house was a very busy house with kids and dogs so he was never there. I have his chip number but thats all and now that hes settled they arent answering my messages when i ask for more details about it so would appreciate any help thank you

I'm assuming you will need to get her scanned at the vets...any will do it. Some rescues will also.

I'll be interested to see how you get it updated, jesmond, as I have a cat (former stray) that is microchipped to a previous owner, who cannot be traced as they seem to have moved house.
I have rung the microchip company associated with the microchip number and they told me I cannot update without the consent of the previous owner.
So I don't know what to do about my situation, and I'll be interested to see how your situation works out.

If you know the number you can put it into this database and they will you which registrary it is registered with. Then you can transfer it if you wish to Pet Database for free. If the animal was registered to someone else and you haven't got their permission, it will record this and flag up if the previous owner reports it lost or stolen.
If you have had an animal microchipped at a vet then check they actually registered the chip with a database, as many leave it to the owner to do and a lot don't realise or remember to do it. You will find the majority of 'private' microchippers automatically register them after implanting which should in my opinion be law to do.
