Hello, we're going to send you another message asking for your meter readings. It'll come from our other mobile number - but rest assured it's us. Thanks.

Well, I've just got the other message, as follows:

Hello.
To make sure your bills are as accurate as possible ahead of the price changes on 1st July.
Please reply to this message with a gas meter reading in the following format:
G1234 or G12345.

Thanks, you British Gas Team.

A scam if ever I saw one.

Definitely some errors in there but I’m curious what would be in it for the scammer? Your number which they have already then a meter reading?

I don't know what would be in it for the scammer, Bobbi. These clever clogs have their way and means don't they? Anyway I've blocked it.

It's considered to be a wise thing to read your meters today and let your provider know what they are. I shall be sending mine to Octopus Energy via their website; can you do the same with BG?

Scottish power are asking for readings today too..so it looks valid but put readings on through official page

I got an email (not a text) from British Gas asking for my readings this morning. I submitted them then went on to my account and all was correct with it.

Can't see the scam unless there's a follow up maybe asking for money or bank details....but best to ignore and submit readings in the normal way ...online . Or if you have a smart meter its easier...its done for you

British Gas are the least worse gas supply
their little scam (official) Hi Karen McClntock! is to say your are late and there's a surcharge( £10 or £20)
which they add on..... when you arent late ! ho ho ho what a good joke.
THEN
whilst you are whining about whether it is £490 or £500 - you are marked as a late payer on your credit score
THEN
you get a letter with honeyed words, how they work their socks off for a splendido service and they are so so sorry for screwing your credit rating but there is nothing they can do. It is all done in the best parsible taste. Thieves and crooks

and send them in electronically ( for BG)
you will need also your acct number - begins 85 00 (pers no) (identifier for G / E)
and of course the readings
