And what did it taste like?

I've has the usual stuff like escargots, frogs legs but also frog glands in Singapore, obviously not knowing... I thought they were black grapes cut in half in a sweet consume, which my oriental relatives had ordered as a joke for me... to be honest though, it was quite nice and i would have them again.

I had a paste made out of witchety grubs (sp?) in Australia, on a bush tucker tour. It was great, and worked just like a kind of mayonnaise on the bread. Lovely with some smoke roo!

What did they taste like? I saw a program on tv last night and the aboriginies were eating them. Aren't they supposed to taste like almonds?
I had boiled egg soup once in the USSR. It looked like dishwater with eight hard boiled eggs sat in the bottom. It was supposed to be chicken stock and everyone took a ladle of chicken stock/dishwater and a hard boiled egg and then was supposed to mash the hard boiled egg into the soup. Lovely!
Question Author
Sounds nice... although its a good job you weren't expected to eat all 8 boiled eggs!
I tried barbequed grasshopper. They were around 15cm in length and you just eat them whole. Tasted very crunchy and like marzipan/aniseed flavour. I would not try it again!!
Question Author
I think I would definately try it as i love aniseed and marzipan!
I've had alligator (or was it crocodile? I cant remember now!) satay, the texture was a cross between chicken and fish, but they had been deep fried so all i could taste was grease, blurgh!!!

Also had cured reindeer, very tasty, just like salami!
Ive had buffalo, ostrich, kangaroo, crocodile, shark.

Buffalo is just like beef but a bit more flavour, ostrich is kinda gamey, kangaroo is absolutely delicious- not sure what it tastes like though, juicy meaty is the best description I can think of, crocodile has the consistency of chicken but tastes like fish its not at all pleasant !
Not weird compared to some of the posts, but ate bulls testes on holiday in Andalucia many moons ago. Tasted pretty good, bit salty to be honest.
Durian - it's a fruit and it smells awful and taste even worst yuk!
Shark and frogs legs are wonderful...my brothers girlfriend has eaten chicken feet. and sheep eyes. I have heard people eat deep fried maggots, double boiled deer penis ( why it has to be double boiled I have no idea Lol ), I just love a chicken korma and naan bread lol
Ive had insua. They are delicatessen ants from african and i also love eating eyes and jaw bone from fish.
Tried some human flesh once ... yes, I know it's a taboo subject ... but if you don't try, you will always wonder ...

It was ok ... a bit chewy, like overdone pork kinda.

naz, i don't believe you. you are joking, aren't you?
Yeah naz, if it's true, what were the circumstances? You can't just throw that in all casually without explaining it, like you're trying to out-cool everyone! In the Solomon Islands, where cannibalism was practised until relatively recently, they love Spam as it's apparently the closest thing to human. The upper arm is said to be the tastiest part of a person, and in the Solomons their version of a handshake-style greeting is to gently squeeze the other person's upper arm - as though saying hmmm.... tasty.

Shredded jellyfish is probably the oddest thing I've had, in a Chinese in Soho, London, called Luxuriance. The restaurant is still there but the jellyfish isn't currently on the menu. It was pretty horrible - cold, for one thing, which threw me, a bit rubbery and somehow simultaneously bland AND disgusting.

Had chitterling (pig's intestine) at St John in London recently - with its multitudinous folds you could tell it was part of the digestive tract - very tasty though.
Oh yes, forgot - squirrel and chips - also at St John.

The squirrel wasn't too good, a very dark gamey meat with elements of pheasant and pigeon. I don't mind those meats usually but while it had some similarity to them, it wasn't as nice. The meal was rescued by the always-wonderful St John chips and the luscious aioli it was served with.
If you are ever in Venezeula, Peru or Chile and Colombia you really must try cuis, deep fried, barbecued, or pot roast with a spicy sauce do not be put off by the fact that we call them guinea pigs here in the UK they taste absolutely delicious
chocolate covered ants, my brother used to work in Harrods food halls and told me they were just chocolate flakes. Apparently a delicacy which the arabs love, needless to say I didn't although to be fair all you could taste was chocolate.
