I was a teacher - so you will know that my answer is that I would try to stop the youngsters from getting involved by telling them straight about the dangers. That is exactly what I did.
I remember one particular 5th form (Yr.11) lesson. ' E' was huge at the time and spreading frighteningly in the Bradford area. I should add that at that time Bradford was the main conduit for drugs into the North and that the police gave seminars to the staff on drug recognition etc..
I showed the Leah Betts video - remember that her parents helped make this to stop other kids.
Most, as usual, took it in. The other group (also as usual) looked bored and detached.
At the end I spoke to them all about their reactions.
A member of the 'detached' group asked why I'd bothered showing it.
My reply was simple "I'd like to to stay alive."
It went quiet and I hope I stopped a couple.
Lots of teachers are doing just the same.
Perhaps the question should be 'Why aren't kids listening to the advice and expectations from their parents, elders and teachers?'
