Electricity is still generated by fossil fuels and then there is the huge amount of pollution in the manufacturing process etc. Then of course there is the huge problem with them spontaneously combusting. I sometimes wonder if this obsession with EVs is like the Emperor's new clothes. Discuss.

"...no one actually said it but the whole bandwagon implies it."

Oh Tora, if only that kind of thinking extended to spraff on the side of buses. :-)
We are currently generating 18% of our electric from imported coal.
We live on an island of coal but it is too expensive to extract apparently.
There is going to be a new deep coal mine in Cumbria, believe it or not for the steel industry.
Something seems out of kilter.

gromit: "We live on an island of coal but it is too expensive to extract apparently. " - not too expensive, too politically difficult.

don't tell me you are suffering from RBID doug!
I believe ferry companies are getting twitchy about carrying EV's due to the fire risk...will this soon include Eurotunnel?
The ferry companies and Euro tunnel should acquaint themselves with the statistics then. See Gromit's earlier post.

ZM: "The ferry companies and Euro tunnel should acquaint themselves with the statistics then. See Gromit's earlier post. " - yes non electric cars do catch fire but not spontaneously and they are not impossible to extinguish. A ferry full of ICE cars would have no fuel in them and would not catch fire, well not by the cars anyway. Did you read about the Rimac fire? It burned for days and could not be extinguished by any normal means. But frankly that's least of their problems.
I doubt the political difficulties outweigh the problems of getting folk to go underground after the treatment meted out to miners by Thatch and her stormtroopers, Tora.

As for the bus, you obviously want it all ways, like a good Tory.

all ways? I can readme old china and Labour closed more mines than TGL.
Going to leave this one for someone trained in dealing with the bewildered, I could just make his condition worse.

Labour shut the last coal mine.
The truth is that importing coal is cheaper than digging for it ourselves.
Thatcher knew that and had no qualms about shutting mines. That is an economic reality. So it is highly irritating when people moan we are importing our energy.
