We all go through life looking for some purpose, even inventing some religion or other to satisfy this need within us to give meaning to our existence. There is no more purpose to our existence than that of a rock or a cloud or whatever...
In my view, anyone who believes in a God does so out of personal desire. If you believe something simply because it comforts you to believe it or it fits with your understanding of the universe then you are a mug!
I know I'm gonna be flamed for this but I have absolutely no respect for those who hold their beliefs simply because they give them comfort.
The meaning of life is most simply put this way... be a child... and don't waste your childhood growing up. fall madly, deeply, and pastionately in love with someone. be happy, have kids... treasure every single moment with every single person you encounter, and enjoy life and live it to the fullest, so that when you're on your deathbed, you don't feel like you're dying too soon. Find the one single person on this planet that makes you the happiest person alive and follow your dreams. Live, Learn, and be happy. "Everyone dies, but not everyone lives."
There are two lives; both have meaning. The life originally intended by the creator is stated in - GENESIS 1:28 Further, God blessed them and God said to them: Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth. This is the real life spoken of at 1 TIMOTHY 6:19 "safely treasuring up for themselves a fine foundation for the future, in order that they may get a firm hold on the real life...." The real life is future. We live now in a life imposed on us by the rebellion against God in Eden. The purpose of the life we live now is to prove that some will love and serve God even under adverse conditions. Once this issue is settled, the real life purposed by the creator will finally begin. The Bible ends with a description of this life in REVELATION 21:1-5 21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more. 2I saw also the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God and prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. 5And the One seated on the throne said: Look! I am making all things new. Also, he says: Write, because these words are faithful and true. As Jesus promised, then the meek shall inherit the earth and live forever upon it.
