( The unclued entry ( 13, 2 words ) has called for a PROTEST. Every clue either generates an extra letter not in the answer or contains a definition with a single-letter misprint. The extra letters and correct letters of misprints together, in order, spell out the focus of the protest and the names of two protesters, whose efforts should be highlighted ( 33 cells total, in two blocks ) in the final grid. Chambers Dictionary ( 2016 ) is recommended. )

Thanks, JJ109! I’m at a loss, this must have to do with the extra letters and misprints? For 44a I have Y and for 2d C…How does this work?

For 2d the aeroplane that The Sopwith Camel succeeded was the Sopwith PUP. the correct letter is a U not an "o" in pop's

"O" Missing from "one" = NE

Therefore O is the letter you need

So, let me see if I have this right, I think the heat is getting to me. What should I put in the grid for 44a (YEARNED )and what should be highlighted? The same for 2d, what is put in the grid ( CAMEL) and what to highlight?

You putin the grid "yearned" and "camel" - but you don't highlight anything from those clues.

The misprint and surplus letters just spell out the theme and the two protesters.

You need to scan the grid and highlight two blocks of letters that indicate the protest

I have already worked out that quotation beginning from 34a: "Down...thing"
And then: "Careful now" with the name of the famous bishop in the Unclued. I also see TED in the bottom right corner; this is to be highlighted. I was expecting to see Dougal as plain as daylight to be highlighted, too?

No - "careful now" + "down with this sort of thing" = 33 letters.

There is nothing else to be highlighted

The misprints and surplus letters spell out in order
"The Passion of Saint Tibulus, Dougal McGuire and Ted Crilly"

This was done just to give a clue of what to google to enable you to highlight those two blocks of letters.

The fact that you saw Ted in the bottom corner was a coincidence!
