School's Using Portacabins And External Sites In The 1970S
3 Answers
Does anyone else remember schools in England being forced to provide extra classrooms in portacabins in the school grounds and other places away from the school grounds such as church halls?
It was the same time parents were asked to provide paper for their children to write on and the pupils had to share textbooks because there was a shortage.
I remember it clearly - but I can't remember why.
Can anyone help my memory?

I do recall them extorting money from parent each term saying it was a compulsory payment, when years & years later I read it was nothing of the sort. And a particular geography teacher insisting pupils paid for the new year exercise book because no one kept the one from the last year. Bunch of thieving 'bar stewards' if you ask me.
