In my local network group a member tells us he dropped his car off at his usual car wash, walked to work and collected it on his way home, as usual.
A couple of days later he noticed his alloy wheels had been swapped - he thinks they are his own tyres.
He is convinced the car wash people did it, but of course there is no way of proving it.
Have you heard of a similar crime? Seems unlikely to me
Many years ago a colleague said that a friend of his had dropped his car off at a car park where the staff park the car (not an airport drop off), when the friend returned to collect the car, he noticed that the tyres were all close to the legal tread limit.
Within his glove box he a receipt for 4 new tyres that had been fitted to his car a few days earlier.
do the alloy wheels have a high enough resale value to make it a worthwhile venture? If it could be proven that they were stolen at a car wash, car park etc. people would avoid that place like the plague.
