Now Tv
10 Answers
A quick question to anyone familiar to the service.
Didn't access via Now TV used to be free for Catch Up type channels ?
Yeah I could fire it up later and find out the present but; my women wanted to use it soon and asked about membership. I said I recall setting up an account, but entertainment etc. tickets were optional, and she insisted she'd heard somewhere that it wasn't free.
I did a web search which didn't answer specifically but seemed to imply no free options. I just wondered if anyone knew of a change, since we have rarely used it and not for years, and she's certainly not going to start paying subscriptions. It just seems a waste of money paying for the hardware if it has no non-subscription service.
TIA

Now TV is a minimum of £9.99 (discounts available for new members) and gives access to channels that are not free.
There are no free options.
If you haven't got a smart tv, devices like Amazon Firestick will give you the free catch up services for no monthly subcription

I've just had to turn my telly on for the first time in several months to answer your question! (I subscribe to Now TV but I rarely use it).
A dedicated Now TV device (or, these days, a compatible device, such as a Roku TV Stick, with Now TV loaded onto it) turns a 'non-smart' TV into a 'smart' one. So it gives viewers access to BBC iPlayer, ITVX, 4 on Demand, My 5, UKTV Play and Pluto TV.
Therefore a Now TV device (even without any form of subscription) can be of considerable benefit to someone who only owns a traditional ('non-smart') TV set but offers nothing to someone who's already got a 'smart' TV (as they'll have the above catch-up services available to them anyway).

Haven't actually tried it yet. I was asked about as I first woke up (as apparently there is a tragic clash of programmes tomorrow) and when I suggested just trying it I was told, "Not now, we'll do it later", from 'she who must be obeyed'. :-)
But curiosity being what it is, I couldn't resist asking here. Sooo... from replies above it appears the Catch Up is available free, and separate from the Sky channels on the same box then. That'll please.
Thanks.
