Creaking chipboard

How do I stop my chipboard floor from creaking? I have pulled back the carpet and attempted to screw down to the joist but I can't find any screws to follow! It appears as if the chipboard is glued down to the joists - is this possible? Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I am totally at a loss. Thank you x

I have lifted and replaced many chipboard floors but never come across a floor that isn't nailed or screwed, are you sure that the screw heads aren't just full of dust. It may be that the floor has been nailed down, this would account for the holes not being very visible, and why the floors creak.
Have another good look. If they have been nailed, screw them all down to stop the creaking.

If the joists are positioned correctly there should be one sited every 400 mm & the first on will be 50mm from the wall. you will not know which way they run so you will have to drill some exploration holes just a small 3mm drill bit will do, From front to back & side to side till you find the fIrst one, Then they should be a regular 400mm from that point on. UNLESS it is an attick room & they may be 600mm apart as they are part of the roof trusses.

Chloe you might also try dusting some talcum powder in the cracks while you are re-doing them - just an old fashion trick that works sometimes :)
