There's only one way to find out - try it.  I'm sure that if it is a failure you can still cook it in your usual way so nothing will be wasted.

Yes I could but then I would have 10 jars of apple butter to use up quickly

It should keep for several weeks if you seal the jars properly

Water bath. Is that just a bain marie ? In which case, unsure what you wish to achieve, but I guess it'd melt butter ok.

Apple butter is not butter and water bath is a technique to seal jars and preserve food

It's like an extra cooked apple sauce so it almost caramelised, you eat it like jam

What is Apple Butter?

Apple butter is made by slowly cooking pureed apples for over an hour. The sugars in the apples caramelize as the puree cooks, giving the apple butter its rich, sweet flavor and dark color.

In contrast to what the name implies, there is no "butter" in apple butter. The name comes from its smooth and buttery texture. Apple butter is delicious on buttered toast.

Apples chopped and cooked for 14 hours with cinnamon, vanilla and sugar, puree till smooth and used with cheese, toast, cakes pancakes etc

its an old fashioned way to preserve and use apples
