ynnafymmi I agree with oldandconfus ed. The IRA are highly unlikely to have any use for the information that was released in error. The computer system and its managers are at fault. An error like this should never have been possible. Security was lax.

When I worked at DWP, we had an automatic system in place that detected any National Insurance numbers within the body of e-mails or attachments and prevented them being sent outwith the Government's e-mail system.
The attempt was recorded as a security breach, the sender's Line-Manager would be notified and it would have to be investigated.

It was a straightforward request for information and if not already available in the manner requested in the FOI, tables could easily have been constructed from the source spreadsheet and then copied and pasted in a response.
Given the size of the file, it should have been obvious it contained a lot of data not relevant to the FOI request, even if some of the data or tabs were hidden.
Someone should have either checked or asked someone else with access to check the contents.
