I didn't realise she is still with us but she will be 100 on 5th October 2023. Her family are asking for her to be made a dame for her 10Glynis Johns' family call on government to give her damehood (msn.com)0th Birthday. I know HM Queen Elizabeth II agreed to knight Capt. Tom Moore out of the normal Honours timing, in recognition of his fund raising. As stated in the article other actors were not accorded this honour. Your thoughts, please.

I don't believe in the current honours system.  Some people seem to be awarded something for just existing.

It would mean so much more if it was only awarded in exceptional situations.

I've heard of Glynis Johns, but I would be hard-pressed to name any films she has been in.

Don't know whether she is well known in the theatre or if she does a lot of charity work, so it's difficult to say unless you can get an award for living to be 100 years old.

No, I don't think she should get it for being a film star and living to be 100 years old.  She's already had awards for her acting career. It should be for people who do extraordinary things or who help other people and don't expect any benefit for themselves.

She's a lovely lady. Know her personally. Honorary godmother to my daughter. She's been in the US for many years. She was the mother in the original Mary Poppins

calmck, thank you for your post. I have always enjoyed her performances and I am glad that I noticed the story - oldest actress in the world is quite something, hopefully her health is good and she will enjoy her birthday on 5th October.

Reading her entry in Wiki was quite fascinating - fancy being a ballet instructor at 10 years old. She had 25 gold medals for dancing. Daughter of the great Mervyn Johns.

Glynis has UK Citizenship but I have no idea if she will receive the congratulations of King Charles and Queen Camilla as she now resides in Beverly Hills. I hope she does.
