rabbit problem

I live on the edge of a village in a house on about one-third of an acre. I have a problem with wild rabbits digging up my lawn. They do not bother my plants a great deal, but they are making a mess of the lawn. There are holes everywhere, and I do not know what to do. We do not have a dog, so they obviously feel very safe here. Fencing would be difficult and very expensive, and it would also involve having a gate put across the entrance which I do not want to do. I have tried spraying the holes with a product designed to deter rabbits, but it had no effect. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Can't you shoot them? Seriously, aren't they classed as vermin when they become a pest, and open to culling?

I know that people do shoot them, but I've never held any sort of firearm and I am a city gal, not Annie Oakley! Besides, I'd be afraid I would merely wound one, and then what would I do?

Speak to the people in the village, they may be able to help, some village butchers still keep ferrets, and will clear them for you.

If you live in the country can't you just put up with the country life? Animals and all? Sorry not to be more sympathetic.

Maybe if you talk to the farmer or owner of the adjacent land to yours, he may be able to point you in the direction of a profecional pest controller, who would be happy to do a cull. If you ask in the local pub, you might end up with some spotty kid with an air gun and not much between the ears. Good Luck Tbird+

When i lived by a farm in Lincs., our cat often used to leave us little "presents" on the doorstep . These mainly consisted of fullgrown rabbits.This used to upset mum,but dad was more then happy as he was obsessed with his lawn.If you decide to get a cat,,i would recommend getting one from a local farm.
