Raymond Moody first coined the term NDE after his book 'life after life' was published.
In his 1975 book of the same name where he investigated Near Death Experiences. (Going down a tunnel, having a past life review ect) the phenomana took off and lots of others came forward with similar experiences.
However, lots of other people soon came forward to say that they had the opposite experience and had experienced hell.
fire, torment, complete abandoment, darkness etc.
Near Death researchers were soon to admit that they hadn't come across these stories before because thet were not looking for them.

While sitting in the reception I started classic signs of beginning a heart attack. My doctor quickly put me on an ECG machine and then pretty much immediately I arrested. My surgery doctors in turn performed CPR until the paramedics arrived (15 minutes) with a defib machine and kicked me back into self supporting life. This is a long preamble to three points. 1. I knew when the heart attack was kicking in that I was in serious trouble but I felt no panic. 2. When I came round in hospital and cleared the painkillers, I wondered why it was so easy to die and that I didn't seem to fight it. While I was on the ECG, my lights just went out and I died. 3. There was no re-run of my life, there were no voices, there was no tunnel of light. Thanks to my doctors and the |TU at the hospital, my lights went out and the came back on again. Very very lucky
The small minority of hell reports then divide into the ones where they were rescued and those who came back to life. But the messages most were given there was there is no hell, it reflects our state of mind at the point of death and as soon as you call out for help you are rescued. Without going there myself I can only report the hundreds of accounts I've heard.
