Has someone switched of the radio transmitters?

It's seems no one comes across music via the radio anymore, but via adverts. This is tragic - Adverts ruin music. She Sells Sanctuary is not about Lucozade, Carmina Burana is not about Old S*ite after shave - god save us from people ruining great music by associating it with shoddy consumer goods. Isn't everyone else bored to death of this yet?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I agree -- also, it's ridiculous that the Dandy Warhols (for example) had a big hit with 'Bohemian Like You' after it appeared on an ad, but not the first time it was released. It just goes to show the power of ad music (or how easily influenced some people are), I guess. And, given the state of much music radio, is it really surprising that most people hear some songs through ads?
It is also a reflection on the absolute power of radio stations. The reason Bohemian Like You didn't sell well first time around was because it couldn't get airtime because the radio stations thought that no-one would be interested. Only when Vodaphone picked it up, probably as a result of some smart work by a publisher, did the radio stations start playing it.
The real proof of how influential radio is was about 4 years ago when Status Quo tried to get a court order forcing Radio 1 to at least consider playing their music on daytime radio.
