It felt a little strange at first and then we realised that, effectively, you ignore it; you put it on when you stop and when you start to move off it takes itself off. I'm not sure that some of the newer ones don't even put themselves on if you stop for more than a second or two. We have a Volvo and ours will only take itself off if you have fastened your seat belt; you can take it off yourself if you haven't. We always use our handbrake when we stop in traffic (it's easier than putting our automatic into P) and would hate to lose it now. If you find it strange at first, persevere. You'll very soon come to love it.
