Or... just SAD... Does anyone have one...was your experience positive? And cheap/ moderate priced recommendations? I've considered them in the past but the price a few years ago was steep. They seem to have dropped to a more realistic level.

I've been an unhappy and miserable bunny since the clocks changed. I'm like this every year...but it's worse. Totally unmotivated...really want to hibernate,...bad mood alternating between grumpy and sad.

There's quite a bit about light therapy for SAD, including its effectiveness, on the NHS website:

Thanks Chris...I'll read the links. I hope to find something on Amazon.

I know someone who has used one every Winter for several years and swears by it (it was actually recommended by the GP, who also used one herself).

Exactly the same unit in Chris's link is available on Amazon (under a different name) much cheaper. You could try one for a few months and return it if it didn't improve symptoms...return cut-off date is Jan 31!

Lol...it does look the same as one that was recommended to me, and is on my Amazon wish list.

Personal recommendations are very helpful.

Why can't you put a different bulb, ie Cool White, Warm White Light etc into your own lamps?

^ladybirder...SAD lamps are very, very bright...nothing like an ordinary lamp.

But surely it's only the bulb which makes it so ?

My psychiatrist said that a good alternative is to move to a sunny country.😅

From the NHS....

//The light produced by the light box simulates the sunlight that's missing during the darker winter months.

It's thought the light may improve SAD by encouraging your brain to reduce the production of melatonin (a hormone that makes you sleepy) and increase the production of serotonin (a hormone that affects your mood).//

Most lamps are adjustable to adapt to individual need, and to get used to the amount of light.

Wolf...my daughter and her partner are in Rio ...I've requested sunshine. Lots of it.

Pasta, I don't have any experience with these lights but am sorry that you are feeling so blue.

I hope you find something to lift your mood and help you through the winter months. Only 38 days until it starts to get lighter. Hang on!

Actually, counting the days until winter solstice keeps me going Tilly. My spirits lift just that little bit. Then there's the post Christmas downer and a bit more hibernating...until the spring bulbs appear.
