Google Mail from taking over.    I have spent nearly an hour trying to stay on Safari but GMail keeps taking over.  How can I stop it please?  I am on an AppleMac and have always used Safari in all the years I've had Macs.

Any help welcome.  Thank you.

I don't understand, Safari is a web browser supplied by Apple and Gmail is an email system supplied by Google.

How do they fight?

You've got me stumped, lb.

What are you doing when 'it' happens and what happens exactly?  As Ozzy says, they have totally different functions.

I have a feeling that Lady means that google has hijacked her system to become the search engine. Lady if this is so you will need to go into the mac settings and put it back to the Apple default. I found this. I do not run a Mac.

"Launch Safari on your Mac, click Safari and choose Preferences from the menu to open the Safari Preferences dialog. The keyboard shortcut to open the dialog is Command-, (Command-comma). Ensure the General tab is selected and then choose default."

Thank you 1ozzy, barry1010 and Togo but I sorted it.  I don't know how but I did.  I couldn't sleep and got up at 3am so I wasn't exactly compos mentis.  Anyway it's sorted but I will keep the comments as I'm guessing this won't be the only time this happens.  Old age eh?

We are still not clear what happened
