Can you view rear Gardens on Google maps

Yes. You can get an aerial view on Google maps, and you can zoom in really close.

I've have been trying and I can see the front of the property but not the rear, not sure how do to do

You don't use StreetView. You use Layers, then select the Satellite layer, and you can see the plan view of a garden.  For example, here is Buckingham Palace:
