Are There Any Restrictions On...

I was issued a new one a couple of months ago but I couldn't stand it as the background noise was really loud and words being spoken had an ssing ssing echo and I couldn't hear the voice of a human. I went back to NHS for an adjustment but it didn't make any difference.
I called again last Tuesday and the audiologist again adjusted but I still can't wear it and she insisted that I should be wearing 2 aids and made a mould of the other ear. I know I won't be any happier and have gone back to using my very old hearing aid.
She also told me she would like me to get a Cochlear implant to which I said no way am I getting my head drilled, it's bad enough at the moment.
I have over the years bought private but it is some time since I did so - would anybody in AB give me an opinion on the quality of private compared to the NHS. Thanks

I went private some 20 years ago and paid a pretty sum for two aids. I have recently ( Last two years) got a super updated hearing Aid from the NHS.It is the same make as the private one I paid for.The aiudiologist certainly had to persevere with the tweaking but I'm happy with their service with the NHS finally.Sometimes I find it a bonus if I don't hear what is asked of me so don't wear them. 😋
To be honest. There is no hearing there I am a profound lip reader from I was a toddler. I did think the audiologist was a bit wound up with me and sorted of didn't believe me when I mentioned the hissing sound. When I use the old aid there is certainly no hissing. Think I will give the private sector a miss too. Thanks
I sympathise, jj, I have tinnitus and when I've tried hearing aids they just make everything louder including the whistling and humming and brass bands in my ears. In theory they can amplify the areas on the spectrum where you still have good hearing, but I don't have any such and it sounds as if you may not have either. Good luck, hope you find something.
just to let you know - that I was nervous of this old hearing aid conking out for good and having to depend on the hissy ones - it would have broke my heart.
however this afternoon I have an area in my cupboard where I keep like old hearing aids, tubing, batteries and old hearing aid moulds - there were 4 hearing aids and I put new batteries into each one of them and 3 are working to my great relief. So I have at least a backup but it does make me guilty taking the new ones but I am going to tell her that they are still hissing - perhaps she can eliminate that sound.
