I've put this in CB as I thought more people might see it. I have a copy of W/H that I received when I was 15 in 1955. It is a Regent Classic edition. I would like to buy the equivalent for a 14 year old girl but am not sure what to look for. I've since read the full adults' version and found it hard going. Suggestions very welcome.  It was the first grown up book I had read and was captivated by it.  I can get one on line but they are quite tatty.

No experience in this but if you weren't fazed at 15, unsure today's 14 yo is going to have much problem as long as they are into reading. Find it difficult to believe it's out of print, what with being a classic an' all.

It's not the full adult version OG. I can get versions on line but the Regents Classics were for children and I can't see if there is a modern equivalent.

I'm not sure what you mean.  Do you want to buy a second hand copy?   There's only one version as far as I'm aware and you'll easily be able to buy it.

Oh I see.  You want an abridged version.

Was the 1955 version toned down or edited in some way to make it suitable for younger teens?

When i was 15 I would have loved to have received a old copy of a book - can you arrange an afternoon 'date' and put the film on with some nibbles etc and then follow it up with the book from the same era?

Helly- try googling' teenage version of Wuthering Heights 'quite a few suggestions come up. I've given up trying to post links

Hellywelly, if you type 'Wuthering Heights abridged' into Google, there are various options there.

Thank you all - I did put teenage version when I searched before but couldn't find one - will try again.

A first edition of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte sold at a London auction for £114,000 ($225,500), more than twice the expected price.14 Nov 2007

didnt sell well, 1847, and the book seller said of the above - I have never seen one before...

Also look for Oxford Reading Tree...abridged versions for children. Found on eBay but I couldn't link to it.

Thank you pasta.I've ordered it so will keep my fingers crossed that it's ok - in the description it said that the condition is good.

I read Pride and Prej - at 12 - missed quite a lot.

14 yr - old girl?  Should be quite capable of reading the full version.  I did and so  did my daughters.  The full-on Yorkshire dialect passages puzzle everyone & require work.

I abhor this fashion of giving people 'easier' versions.

Question Author

Jourdain - I wanted her to experience the delight I felt when I read it, it was wonderful. She is an intelligent girl and could no doubt cope with the original version.

On Amazon, I was noticing reviews...I love reviews.

Surprising sometimes how many adults will complain that language, or realistic dialect...is difficult. Yes...maybe it is...but it is part of the character's background, culture and environment. It creates atmosphere.

Ooh...thankyou for BA hellywelly.
