I watched a program on SKY recently where a guy was complaining that he couldn't get a job because of the large holes that had been left in his ear lobes from large ring piercings. He got a right telling off by all and sundry about his moaning. An employment agency representative said that many people who have these large rings in their ears and visible tattoos (on neck, hands, face) do it so they won't easily get work and can live off job seekers allowance or other benefits. When the guy who had been on the program previously moaning came back a few months later, he had a job - and had gone through expensive plastic surgery to close these holes. With no job and no money, his parents had had to fork out for this! His ears were still scarred somewhat. So, my heart goes out to you serendipity, your son does have a bit of a problem on his hands there!
He is in a way telling the truth, although the holes wont shrink a humans ears never stop growing so this will close the holes up, how much I dont know. As some people holes with normal piercings do take ages. But if he is at an age where he will start having job interviews soon then I dont think he really thought it through before getting them. Each to their own but I think they look disgusting.
yer I understand, but you're right he is old enough and you cant stop them. Just try and explain to him about further consequences doing this may have. I have my nose pierced and my mum hated it but it is a tiny stud and I can always take it out. But I cant see that these rings dont do some sort of damage over time.

i cant see how it could possibly close up

i wouldnt worry re: employment as in 10 years time all the people doing the employing will have these peircings themselvs. Its like when people say "what is that tattoo going to look like when you are in a nursing home" well it wont matter, because by that taime everyone who is that age will have them
'Stretchers' aren't my cup of tea either...I can cope with my daughter having piercings (she has her ears, nose & lip pierced) but I don't like these at all!
Each to their own I suppose :o) I can't see how stretchings can fully close up, although I have seen naval piercings migrate (grow out) and then close up.

depends how big they are to how 'back to normal' they go. they may shrink again and look like ther is no hole, but the lobes will never go back to being like they were. if the holes are too big then they will just stay baggy.
I just think it's a shame that some employers will look at people with certain piercings and tattoos and not hire them because of that. You wouldn't not hire someone just because you didn't like the necklace they were wearing.

Ah, but spidermonkey ... you can take the necklace off!!! So that argument doesn't really wash I'm afraid.
My partner has large tattoos on both arms and a few piercings. I always disliked tattoos, so was a bit taken aback when we first met. But his character won me over that very first day. We have been together for about 18 months and I love him so much I don't notice them anymore.
