what's the problem? I don't get why some seem so put out by a smart meter. Just don't turn on the monitor. The smart meter is on the meter anyway.

I doubt you can have it removed once it's in a property, especially if it's working.

No, you can't have it removed. But you can insist that they make it "dumb" ie don't use it's smart capabilities.

Can only suggest finding a supplier willing to supply a normal meter and then switching suppier to them.

Is a smart meter any more intrusive and big brotherish than my inbuilt landline and mobile call tracking for automated billing and my credit card company and bank who do all the tracking and calculations for me and could in theory cut me off at any time?

I can see one downside of a smart meter would be for those who choose to misread their old style energy meters when they submit their own readings.
