Which Books Do You Remember Having As A Child?

For me, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, The Water Babies, Brothers Grimm and Hans Anderson's fairy tales, and one my lovely friend at church gave me and with which I would never part - Treasures of the Snow by Patricia St John. That friend later became a missionary in Africa and was hacked to death in Zimbabwe.

I was never bought up on books.
I was bought up in working mens clubs.
Discovered books in my teenage years tho.
Started with the Bible....
And then off it went...
Read up on everything.

Wind in the Willows is my all time favourite book, I loved it as a child and I've read it many since as an adult. When life gets on top of me, it is like reconnecting with loved old friends.

My mum bought me so many books from second hand book shops and searched always for those with the original illustrations. She taught me to read before I started school and I was such a bookworm. I loved all the children's classics except fo The Water Babies. Favourites were Heidi,and Jane Eyre as I got olderwill be my favourite book ever. My son bought me a beautiful leather covered version just a few Christmasses ago. Our house is full of books. Hubby is a bookworm. I am not any more but I love being surrounded by them.

When I was very young I remember the Little Golden Books like Scuffy the Tugboat. Unfortunately it seems they are now disgustingly unsuitable for the children of ABers!

I vividly remember reading The Mind Parasites by Colin Wilson when I was seventeen, more than fifty years ago.

It was set in the future, and the opening chapter involved two people speaking to each other via a videophone.

This was in the days before even fax machines, much less mobiles, and the Internet.

I remember thinking how futuristic that notion was, and thought I was unlikely to see anything like it my lifetime.
