Scam?

Recieved an email asking me to log in via link to access my personal allowance from HMRC? It has no Mr or Mrs just my late husband's initial and our surname! 

I'm assuming it's a scam..

Always err on the side of caution.  If in doubt, don't do it.  If they need you that badly they'll write to you.

These can be tricky to spot, as fraudsters often use addresses that look official at first glance, containing words like Revenue, HMRC, and gov.

The key to spotting whether the address is real or not is to hover over the ‘from’ address. The actual link the text leads to will not end in @hmrc.gov.uk (which all official emails from HMRC will).

It does sound like a scam, as the sender is mailing YOU as your late husband

I'm going to ignore it as my husband'sHMRC affairs were completed a yr ago. I have a letter to confirm it.  The email just gave his initial no Mr ..

Yes there was a link to log in to his account.

He never used the internet so definitely had no account.

Thisoldbird, even if I get a phone call that I doubt is authentic I ask them to write to me.  They never do.

Never click a link, instead go directly to the correct website and log in from there.  If you dont have a login then it really is a scam!

I THINK the HMRC has a page on how to spot a scam - return address is not hmrc-gov, grammatical mistakes, and advises always using the HMRC portal

Had 2 calls this morning, try to flog me loft insulation.  Told them to man up and get a proper job. I couldn't get to my chicken impression as they hung up sharpish. 😁
