Does anyone think that Mr Rochester (Toby Stephens) will be adored by the ladies as Mr Darcy (Colin Firth) was? When he smiles .......corrrrr, but still I can see Mr Darcy as he emerges from the lake in his wet clothes.....mmmmm.
I don't rate this particular Rochester at all, he is not gruff or rude enough and no where near as physically domineering as the character was. Also i think Jane is not petite enough nor mousey enough, she is not right at all. Plus Adele is more like a tomboy than a sweet spolt French child.
Well I'm loving it. And I completely disagree with dot, I think Ruth Wilson as Jane is turning in a terrific performance - very affecting. Though they have toned down Rochester's gruffness, I find it's not to the detriment of the story.
I agree with Dot. However, having read the book a zillion times I have very firm ideas in my head of how the characters look and it would be totally impossible to find any actors that would please me. I stopped watching it after the first episode because of this. Rochester was just so wrong - too handsome, too young, not craggy or gruff enough.
