35. Crescent tip of stinger (one third detached)(4)

Thanks Gojira.

1 (answer to '36' is NINE, so it's the 9th month) VIS = 'might'/power + AN (year abbrev) SIVAN (Hebrew month).

9 LINEN ('white goods') [around] 1 LINE-IN

30 'wishing to have' = FOR+INT (a coin).

...sorry, 'in the year' = AN.

Thnks ProfessorM.

I only have a few letters, so no theme yet.

The first 5 corrections are Roman numerals, hankir - they'll give you the year.

Good afternoon! I've bern finding this very slow going, but now have only 2 clues to solve, so sny help would be really appreciated.

I think both clues are normal, but I may have the wrong letters, LOL

28a Small cup from Perth (an island heading south-east) (6) ti??ie, and 23d. Upset after No. 1's forgotten from Dickie's homeland (6)

?i?kei

Any help appreciated!

28 Your first I should be an A

23 - an anagram, after you've taken a letter away from 'Dickie's' (no 1's forgotten, so lose the...) I'd never heard of the answer!

Thank you NAC! Have a great New Year when it comes!

Slugabed, you're very welcome.

Any hints for 10D - In times past, make nut roast without oven in sight (6) - I have _CER_E; fairly sure there's a misprint in the clue. help much appreciated!

Thwpipps, I thought the misprint was pretty cunning in this clue. It's in the fifth word. The 'roast without oven' gives you a single letter which goes inside a five letter word for sight, picture, setting.

Thank you! Where would IQ setters be without obscure archaisms to fill the gaps. Grid completed now, but at first glance I have no idea where to find this name that wants changing...

If you've discovered the theme and changed the words in the grid, you've already changed the name. Look at the original letters (the ones before your changes) reading top to bottom.

Thwphipps, glad that helped. Hope you're all finished now.

Changed which words in the grid? I've worked out the theme but can't see how that's applicable to "a name" unless there's something I'm not seeing!

Thwpipps, if you've got the theme, you'll be changing certain words in the grid to ... demonstrate that. The words are all detailed in the thematic material.  The first letters of the original words spell out the name of the person responsible for the ... theme..  I'm trying to give enough for you to get the last little bit, but I might have made things more confusing!

Got it! Very clever! Thanks everybody for the help :)

Thwphipps, thanks for the update. I'm delighted you got this finished off, it was a very satisfying ending to a neat puzzle.
