They were all shown on BBC4 a couple of years ago, so yes, I do remember them and they are worth watching.  No doubt they'll be shown again

The episode"The Signalman",starring Denholm Elliot and Bernard Lloyd must go down as one of the best short films ever made in Britain.

Written by Dickens. That's why it's good.

They are all available on DVD - four volumes with 9 films from the Ghost Stories series

Or there is a 6 disc version available on Amazon.  Tempting

Not the same watching them now as it was watching them originally back in the early seventies Barry.Watching them on a cold snowy winters night in Aberdeen back in 1972 just doesnt seem so good, say,to be watching them in the middle of June 2024.

Be nice to watch them round Hallowe'en or Christmas with the older grandkids though

Ghost stories were traditional entertainment for the Victorians at Christmas.

I find 'The Signalmam' difficult to watch, as it's far too disturbing for me!  (I agree that it's a brilliant production though).

There's a full listing of all the films in the series here:

This year's production is an adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Lot No. 249', to be transmitted this Sunday at 10pm on BBC Two:

@17.25.When i first watched The Signalman,i must have been about fifteen years old.The ghost at the entrance to the tunnel has haunted my dreams ever since.

Dickens had been in a fatal train crash; it obviously preyed on his mind.

The still do these don't they? On and off
