my mother in law took her cat to the vets 2 days ago they told her it wouldnt cost much and now they expect her to pay
�393.35 for tests allready carried out . does anyone know if she can get help as she is a pensioner thanks

Your grandmother's vet misrepresented the costs and should not now be charging this high an amount. I don't think she should pay anything until she has had avice from the CAB or the PDSA / RSPC. I would tell her vet that your grandmother was in fact lied to and hence is not willing to pay this amount. Get a list of and proof of the tests that were done and take it to another vet or the PDSA and ask them what it should have cost. If they say the bill is correct then you can still negotiate on the basis that she was lied to and would perhaps not have had the tests done if she had been told the truth. The CAB will be able to tell her if she can get help with the costs. Good luck!

The PDSA do have a scheme whereby people on benefits can claim help with veterinary costs, but it is only a very limited amount.

as lankeela say the PDSA may be able to help. You have to be on a means tested benefit to qualify - I think that the main one is housing benefit.

as karakeel says she should get some sort of breakdown of the costs. I have always been quoted a price at the initial stages and if the bill is to be more expensive I have been consulted about it all the way through the treatment.

The only thing is if they actually said it wouldnt cost "much" and didnt state what much was you might have a problem. What counts as "much" for a pensioner is probably diffirent than what a vet would think
