lost endowment policy
7 Answers
I was divorced in 1988 and only now remember we had an endowment policy. I know i didn't sign anything to surrender it so does anyone know who i could contact to see which company it was with and if i would be able to surrender it now without the consent of my ex?
Thanks for any help.

It is unlikely your ex will have been able to surrender the policy, certainly without your authority. If the policy is still in force then you both still have the life cover and the surviving person will receive the sum assurred on death of the other person...even though you are divorced. I had my endowment policy assigned to my sole name to have the benefits of the policy at maturity but if my ex dies before then I will receive the sum assured, if I die first then the money will be paid to my children. If neither of us dies then the money at maturity will be paid solely to me. This was part of the divorce settlement and I continue to pay the premiums. Maybe the bank which paid the direct debits will be able to give you some idea of a policy or reference number. If poss, contact your ex to see if he is still paying the premiums.
