Anyone ever taken part in one?

We both applied at the beginning of Covid for a trial to do with the vaccine but didn't hear anything. I was approached just before Christmas about taking part in this one which is connected to a condition I have, and had the first appointment today.
Seems I'm just what they're looking for, and surprise surprise I'll get paid a significant amount for taking part!! Nearly fell of the chair when I was informed of this as it didn't even cross my mind!

That's why I decided to take part Barry, out of interest and to see if I could learn anything more.

They were very friendly people, I'll be given a thorough health check at the next appointment, which will last two hours. Then be given a jab, it's a blind trial so I won't know if it's the real thing or not.

Lots of check ups and phone calls over the next three months to make sure I'm ok.

I took part in research into Bipolar Disorder.  I had MRIs taken of my brain and some psychology tests.  It must have been nearly twenty tears ago.  I didn't get paid but all my expenses were paid.

Did you learn anything about your condition wolf, during the course of it all?

No, but I got a copy of my brain scan.

I got a couple of days off work - that is always nice.😁

I donated a bit of my bum to diabetes research many years ago wolf, treated myself and youngest child (who had recently been diagnosed ) to a black cab and a fancy lunch, child got a day off school and an unexpected day with mum...and asked and was allowed, to see my bit of bum being excised!

Vagus, have you checked it out with your GP?

If they are giving you a jab, don't you want to know what it's for?

the covid one they wanted me to druve to Preston from Manch on a regular basis

covid - the onky large trials were NHS as so many people cd be called on ( millions)

your one may even be for an orphan disease.... few cases and the costs are written off on the  sales of more successful drugs

As I have explained, it's all to do with a condition I have. It's called a blind trial because you don't know if you're getting the actual vaccine or a placebo.

do they tell your GP what you're getting (ie real or placebo), so that he/she knows the position if anything goes wrong?

I did one many moons ago.  Don't think I got paid I was just a volunteer.  Can't remember much about it.

No, nothing to do with diabetes.

No, they don't even know themselves what I'm getting but there are very strict things in place should I react badly to the jab. Clinical trials are really, really well controlled.

I thought I was just a volunteer too, LB, so it was a very pleasant surprise to know I was getting paid!

I was on the PATCH trial for three years until my PSA count went above the threshold for it:

All it involved was a lot of paperwork to get signed up for it and then applying women's HRT patches to my skin (at 6 times the regular women's dose) on a regular basis.  I didn't get paid for being on the trial but I did grow a lovely pair of breasts!

no and it is an absolute mightmare - they turn up tothe ward or A+E and say "I am on the Gooby trial and I have finished the red box, and now....."

( midnight saturday).

You can break the code but the triallists dont thank you as the patient has to be excluded ( or included on 'intention to treat').

Did you get a sheet about what to do after the red  box

Yes but I have left it at my house in Lesser Scrunton
