//Sir Keir Starmer has watered down promises to introduce a law giving MPs a vote before military intervention and to stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.

The Labour leader insisted on Sunday that there is “no inconsistency” between his previous promise to give the Commons a say before authorising action and his support for strikes against Houthis.

But his comments marked another change to his past pledges which will further raise concerns on the left and leave him open to Conservative accusations of “flip-flopping”.//

Trust him if you will ... His flip flops are becoming legendary!

Better Starmer than the old anti-semite that used to be the leader of the Labour Party.Ole Magic Grandpa would have been backing and supporting the Hamas terrorists to the hilt.

I thought there was already a law that such matters were voted on by parliament. I remember that opposition parties enthusiastically voted to send British troops to die in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Perhaps Sunak denied any debate and vote because he was scared of losing a vote, as most of his party enjoy voting against him.

Quite right too. It's pretty daft demanding a debate before every mortal action. There should still be a debate IMO but not one that decides anything.

As long as he is doing the right thing he can "flip flop" as much as he likes.

No way should we ever postpone tactical military responses while we wait for the honourable members to hem and haw about it: strategic decisions are a different matter

Not really a flip-flop.

Four years ago his pledge was to Labour Party members, not to the UK public.
Contrast with Rishi's 5 pledges to the country when he became Prime Minister. At last count he has dismally failed on 4 of the pledges. His pledge to halve inflation is the only one that has been fulfilled, but that was done by the BoE not the Prime Minister.

There isn't going to be a vote in Parliament - ever - on whether we do something like the action in Yemen: and so I think I agree with Starmer that there's a difference

Parliament voted for the war in Iraq. That turned out so badly I suspect MPs would be in no hurry to put their names to another war. Let Sunak do it and carry the can.

I dont think there was ever a vote in parliament to fight a war against Hitlers anti-semitic Nazis, why should there be a vote in parliament now to fight against the anti-semitic modern day Nazis of Hamas and the Houthis?

Must be a GE coming up, knowing they haven't a hope of winning on their record, the Tory apologists are getting the smear-the-opposition campaign under way.

It's not practical to consult parliament for this sort of thing. I think Sir Beer has realised that.

TBF if we must have a Labour PM then I'd rather have Sir Beer than Agent Cobb. He wanted to disband NATO. With him in charge we'd have been assisting his buddies in Hamas et al.

My point in posting this is that he's coming in for criticism and so he's changing tack... again. A man who, in an effort to pin down votes, tries to be everything to everyone.  He says what he thinks people want to hear ... and then he finds out they don't.  Don't mention penises.

"Don't mention penises."

And with one bound we arrived at Johnson

Good example, douglas.  He knows women don't have them,

YNNAFYMMI, there were debates and statements in Parliament declaring the UK's support for Poland and the ultimatum given to Germany in the months leading up to the declaration of war in 1939.

The debates didnt stop the anti-semitic Jew hating Nazi terrorists back in 1939,TCL.Why do you think it would stop the anti-semitic Jew hating Hamas or Youthi terrorists nowadays?
