Hints for the third would be appreciated

The thrid one is a Scottish word, not easy to hint at!

...and it has nothing to do with last will and testament, or will as in determination.

I know the starting letter but have no idea - is it a proper noun? I'm clueless when it comes to people's names!!

The third one is just an unusual (to me, anyway) definition of 'will'. It's in Chambers, after the other, more usual definitions. It's not a name, but an adverb and adjective.

Is there a pattern to the answers? If so I can't make it out.

Saintstim, I don't do the puzzle, but a question or two from it usually appears on Answerbank. The format is hard to explain. I just google Christmas Charity Puzzle 2023 and got the latest one.

When I did a previous one the first letters of the answers spelled out words but I cannot seee a pattern in this one.

Did you look on Chambers online or have you a hard copy?

 

I can think on only one English word it might be but it doesn't give a Scots use of it in the Chambers online version and I can't see that use in Scots dictionaries I looked at.

It's annoying me now and I'm not even doing the quiz...

"Astray" was the only word I could think on and I thought it was the answer that was Scots, not the meaning but I couldn't find it in the Scots dictionaries.

It is, "astray" and the Scots word is, "will".
