Does anyone use an online prescription service that delivers by post?

My local chemist is hopeless you have to wait a long time for your meds even when they have had the prescription for a week or so.

Used to have 3 chemists in the town and now only one.

Have heard good and bad reviews about getting online.

Thanks, tora.

I was a bit concerned about mail strikes etc and getting the meds before I run out.

Obviously, you've had no problems there.

Does your local supermarket have a pharmacy?

I use Tesco pharmacy and have found them to be very good.

If you give them your mobile number, they text you when your medicines are ready for collection.

Thanks barsel but I'm disabled, use a walker and no transport so am reliant on local shops.

Nearest large Tesco too far away and I've also heard they are not accepting any new customers for meds.

Local Boots has closed and the Day Lewis has been rubbish for a long time.

I'm just seeing what people think at the moment as it is very tiring waiting for the meds even though I only go twice a month.

I would not rely on prescriptions by post if it is delivered by Royal Mail.

I see that Uber will be delivering prescriptions soon but I wouldn't trust that service either and I doubt there is an Uber service if you live in a remote location.

I am very lucky as our prescriptions are usually delivered the day after I order them online from my GP.  Excellent service.

I suggest you phone your pharmacy and ask why you have to wait so long for delivery and stress the necessity for prompt service.  It might make a difference.   If it doesn't, phone your GP and ask for a one off double prescription so you always have meds 'in hand' should you run out.

Gill, couldn't you have your prescriptions sorted so that you get two months worth at a time? Then you would only need to go to the chemist once every two months, that's what me and OH do.

You could then phone the chemist when your next lot are due and ask if they're ready, and explain how difficult it is for you to stand around waiting as you're disabled.

Thats what I'd do.

Sorry, barry, probably didn't make it clear. I go to chemist for my meds they do not deliver. I order on line a pick it up at local chemist.

I, too, don't trust postal delivery which is why I am asking how other people fare.

I am not remote as live on edge of small town but no transport of my own.

Vagus, I hadn't thought of getting more at a time as they only prescribe monthly even though I'm on them all for life.

I did ask the chemist to deliver during Covid but they refused so just trying to explore other ways.

I always get very annoyed just after I've picked up meds which I did yesterday.

Hence the rant! I do need to try and get some other way sorted.

If you could explain to your surgery just how difficult it is for you then I can't see why they wouldn't try to accommodate your needs. Good luck 🤞🙂

I've just looked online and it says GPs may prescribe up to three months meds on a prescription if it's for a stable long term condition.

I have used pharmacy2you for the past two and a bit years. Never a problem.

Yes, both local pharmacies let me down very badly on repeat prescriptions so now I use Chemist4U (others are available). There is a slight risk with the postal service I guess but I've never been let down yet.

Yes, suggest to GP getting three months supply at a time. I was put on a three month delivery system as it saves time for GPs and chemists.

I use Chemist4U and I asked my doctor to prescribe 2 month's worth at a time and that's what happens.  Never had a problem.

I was collecting my prescription one day when a lady handed in a big carrier bag full of meds - sadly her husband had died.

After the lady left, the assistant commented, "It's such a shame that all these meds have to be destroyed, a lot of them have never been opened."

I did wonder if that's why some doctors won't prescribe double quantities.

//Yes, suggest to GP getting three months supply at a time.//

Depends on the meds.  Some like Thyroxine they will refuse, others can have a relativley short shelf life so they wont do those either.

I suppose we are very lucky in getting our prescription medications delivered

One benefit of living very rurally.

Hi gill, for some reason i have it in my head you live in berkshire?

not that it matters but my pharmacy (berkshire)are terrible too.  I order online from boots, but as i work full time (and have a dog) i cant get them delivered.  I dont want them to post thru the letterbox then have my dog eat them before i get home!

I have spent over an hour in the queue at the pharmacy before now, and that was whe they had texted me to say they were ready!

Quite a way from there, bednobs! Cornwall.

The problem seems to be nationwide then.

My first stop is to see if chemist will deliver. Won't need more meds for a month so will sort it by then, I hope.
