Of course, we won’t be negotiating to rejoin until the nutters in the Tory party come to their senses and admit what a disaster Brexit is for the UK, and decide that they would like to get elected as a government, ditching their anti-EU stance.

 

As my mate Phil explains, 48% would vote to re-join if we had to adopt the Euro – how long before that figure becomes the majority; with 63%  wanting to rejoin (without it being specified whether we adopt the Euro).

Not good news for the Brexiteers.

it isn't just about the terms of rejoining... the country badly needs to move on. the whole debate made it very clear that there is a lot more to the european issue than just economics and it was extremely divisive. i do not think we should be in any hurry to revisit the dark days of 2016... truly not this country's finest hour

resurrecting the debate around brexit would also be a dream come true for the tories who would be able to rally their supporters around it. we should not give them any such opportunity... i'll take being out of europe if it means finally getting the tory boot off this country's neck

In conversation, many of my friends have agreed that were the UK be able to join a 'Common Market' (a Trading Bloc, as originally described in the 1960/1970s) with the rest of Europe, that would be quite acceptable.

But the likelihood of 'misson-creep' repeating itself where we are then inveigled into accepting closer ties would act as a deterrent to us agreeing to do so in any referendum.

Plus I think we might well see some of our partners wishing to enact some punitive measures against us for having the temerity to leave in the first place.

ok but the views of people you happen to be friends with don't mean very much do they... plus lots of people avoid political disagreement in social situations (i certainly do) so you can't always assume people are telling you what they actually think

i find it better to try not to care about what "the majority" does or doesn't think!

I'd take the views of my many and varied friends (not all of whom were leavers, by the way) over the comments of the nebulous 'Phil' and his YouTube vidoes any day.

These are people who have their own thoughts about the issue. Why should I give more weight to the opinions of people I have never met who have their own reasons for their stance?

'YouTube' Phil carries no more gravitas on the matter than my friend Carl......
