Either way, he won't win, but it will delay it a bit more which is the real intention.
He wants to delay facing all the many charges against him until after the election as it may harm his chances.
If he wins it he will attempt to presidentially pardon himself of any and all convictions.
I'm sure that if somebody pointed out to Trump that his insistence of absolute Presidential immunity also applies to Biden, who by the same argument could have Trump killed with impunity... then it would make no difference. The real argument he wants to make is that absolute immunity for life should apply to Trump. Him, and him alone. As luck would have it, having been President allows him to make a version of that argument at least vaguely plausibly -- and getting re-elected President would at least give him a four-year respite -- but, make no mistake, that's entirely a front to hide from the consequences of his actions.
There is no way in hell that the American justice system is going to agree that a sitting president is immune from criminal prosecution –
