Here's the chorus of this year's UK entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. Unless the rest of the song is substantially better, I can't see it winning!

There used to be a time(years ago now) when the BBC had two programmes for Eurovision,on consecutive Sundays.
We heard(on each programme) about 6 songs, and then the viewers could vote, on which one they wanted to go forward to the contest.
What do we get now. Some song plucked from somewhere,by an unknown BBC minion,so is it surprising that our song never gets anywhere?
It is this proceedure(and faceless BBC idiots) that decided that Engelbert Humperdinck was a good idea!!!
I have been watching Eurovision since it started (yes I am that old!LOL)
But I stopped when mediocre songs were foisted on us,and when they admitted Australia.
Personally,I think that it is
now time that this (now)puerile contest ceased,it has had it's day,and should be quietly put to sleep.!
Rant Over~Gordon.
Lovely, Jno!
The problem with letting the TV audience vote, Gordon, was that we often ended up with a song that might be popular with Brits but which stood no chance at all with an international audience.
I hardly ever watch TV. (It can often be a month or more between me turning the set on). However I couldn't possibly miss the Eurovision Song Contest (including the two semi-finals before the main event). It's just the pure silliness of it that I love so much!
Wow, lovely jno - I don't remember it which is surprising because I started watching it from the very first show (Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson days) but, like Nosey, went off it when they started to "improve" it. The good old days, with dear multi-lingual Katie Boyle running it, will never return. Nowadays it's too too trashy for my liking.
Nosey, I remember that was how they picked Puppet on a String. Sandie Shaw sang one song a week on the Rolf Harris Show, and the audience voted, in between the wobble boards and fence painting.
She nearly blew it with Puppet on a String - got off on the wrong beat; and it was all going out live. But she just stopped, apologised, and said "Let's start again..." And at the end of the run, that was the audience favourite.
According to the internet, they are now going to admit Canada to Eurovision!
