When Did This Roadside Rescue Excess Nonsense Appear?
About to renew my breakdown cover and I now see RAC and Blue Flag are charging £40 excess when called out before they assist me. The whole point of a breakdown cover was to help when needed. Not to charge extra for doing what you paid for in the first place. Yet another example of bleed the motorist?

When poor people have personal private transpost, one must accept commensurate costs. I must admit that it does disturb me that that those same people moan so much.
what a stupid comment. Commensurate costs, like extortionate road tax, robbery fuel prices. Things we bare with equanimity because we use private transportation. Though there's often no buses, or trains, or being rurally housed, or physically unable to walk long distances. TTT You should be ashamed to spout such nonsense.
Buen, my quote from RAC:

"Welcome to Essentials by RAC
All our breakdown cover starts with Roadside Assistance
With Roadside Assistance, we'll fix your vehicle at the roadside and if we can't, we'll give you a 10-mile tow. Please note: your cover includes a £40 excess. The benefit of this option is a lower annual premium.
DavidSmall 23:19 my comments relate to the overall state of things. The fact is that even unemployed people have cars. If they can afford personal private transport then societally it is far too cheap. Now whenever this comes up there are always people like yourself that say they could not manage without a a car, fair enough we will provide you with one free paid for by properly charging motorists. There will of course be qualifying criteria but if you can fulfill those then the state will pay. We will also spend vastly more on a proper subsidised integrated public transport system. I am generally considered right wing but in the sphere of transport I am very socialist.
god it allows you to make a choice
A. lower fee and charge on use
B higher fee. free many uses
and it depends on whether you can work out the value/cost the services. - THAT depends on the age of the car.
wd be a good example for taking a choice on possible expenditure in any school or college....
and caneven take in probability of break down / year - variable on the year of make
