I need to know if the hospital receptionists are aware that a patient has granted LPA to his representative/spouse/carer.

Does it come up on the screen during the booking in process?

The hospital should be told at every visit because it may have been revoked or changed during the interim.  They are unlikely to  ask for proof unless there is a big decision to be made.

Thanks, rowan.  I was hoping there would be some sort of notice on the patient's record that was clearly visible on the screen.  For health and welfare only, not financial just to be clear.

In my hospital we get alerts on our screen we can click on giving us information on allergies and who to send correspondence to and not to etc, so it would be on our screen.

It occurs to me that, whatever the hospital's policy on disclosure might be, the information that an LPA exists can't possibly appear on any screen unless the hospital authorities have been made aware of it in the first place.

For example, I signed the paperwork to help my friend set up an LPA.  However I very much doubt that it's ever occurred to him to tell his GP, or the hospital, about that LPA.  So there's absolutely no way that a hospital receptionist could become aware of it.

The only thing that definitely comes up is it the patient has a properly worded and witnessed advance directive lodged  with the hospital ( in the notes paper or electronic) that expresses their wishes if they are unable to speak for themselves.

The hospital is aware of the LPA.

Thanks all, it seems different trusts have their own systems
