Have any of you ever been somewhere in public when suddenly you recognise a smell that is familiar to you, from many years ago? There have been times when i have been reminded of classroom smell from 20 years ago.
Yes i know what you mean. I occasionally get smell that reminds me of an accident that happened nearly 40 yrs ago when I was little girl. A girl fell off her bike into the path of an articulated wagon. Its that smell that you get when the roads have been dry for a long time and sometimes when it rains I smell it. But it always reminds me of that little girl.
Whenever I start back at the school I work in September the smell of the dinners brings it all 30 years back. It's funny it only seems to be on the first day back; after that I must get used to it again I guess.
Fresh-cut grass in April/May always reminds me of practicing the Maypole!
i recently went to the Black country museum, and their were a few coal fires on the go {i love the smell of coal}
The other one i noticed not to long back, going into my mother-in-laws house, theirs always that OLD-FASHIONED smell in the older generations houses, you know, the antique type.
yes, i love the feeling you get when that happens as the memory is always so vivid. It'a not just the memory though, I can actaully feel what I was feeling at the time. It's amazing
Nice to hear it has actually got a name. One of my re-occouring "odour memories" takes me back to infants school, when we used to use a little old hall opposite the school for one lesson a week as the school hadn't got enough room. I am always reminded of this when I smell a newly varnished wood floor, but even so this was not a conventional smell. After school when we had used this hall for a lesson my mum used to say youv'e been in that hall again haven't you , as I must have ponged of it.
