I know it's only make believe, but....................................

I've watched all four series of WITB and I feel that this last series was a bit of strange one with regards to how Tony Hill (Robson Green's character) was treated by EVERYONE.

As far as I recall, Tony Hill was always treated respectfully in the previous series, but this last one started off with (the new DI) Alex Fielding (played by Simone Lahbib) was rude, arrogant and dismissive of him in the first episode. Now I appreciate that this would have been a good storyline (with RG changing her mind and retaining his good ststus and character) for the first episode.

However, even though he made a significant positive and professional contribution to all the cases in all the episodes in this last series, Fielding never changed her professional opinion of him and treated him appallingly. This was "complimented" by other members of the Force (who treated him respectfully in the previous series) "joining in"!

I then got very confused as she (very occasionally) acted as if she DID care about him and DID want to be his friend.

Have I completely mis-read the whole series? :o)

It seems like they have based his relationships with people on the books more. In the books he is treated badly and with mistrust to start with and then the relationships gradually improve as the books go on. I think that she did care about him all along it is just that she did not want to ruin her career by associating with him the same as Carol whos career is now over due to Tony

I can't exactly remember how the last series ended. IIRC, Carol and Tony "got close", but it was so long ago.............!

I've never read any of the books.
You should give her a try. The books are so much better then the TV series.
I must agree... read the books. It may be that they've skipped one of the books (I won't spoil it) and this explains their feelings for each other.

Anyway, the books are very, very good!
