it took our puppy a long time to realise he could go somewhere other than the place in the garden where he was trained to go. plus the fact there were so many other things to see and do outside the garden.
after a good few weeks he worked it out, but only because he went for a walk first thing and we stayed out until he weed. sheer desperation in the end i think. i'm sure your puppy will work it out eventually

Have you never heard the phrase 'train your dog to go at home'? It is the most responsible thing you can do, so you don't leave any mess for other people to step in (even if you pick it up, sometimes you can't help but leave traces of poo!)
You are very lucky that such a young puppy is clean indoors, I am sure she will learn to go away from home when she is away for longer periods of time.

Lankeela is absolutely right! Your puppy should be trained to go in YOUR garden, not out where others walk. I could explain to you several methods of training your dog, but to be totally honest I think you should make the effort to find out by buying and reading a book on how to train a puppy. Then if possible take your pup to puppy training classes as soon as it is old enough, preferably clicker training classes as these are great fun for both dog and owner and this is a gentle way of learning.
We got a 'pee post' in pet superstore, which my rescue dog weed on.... IN the store! Though he goes anywhere in the garden now, no trouble. Try not taking your pup out for a few days, then she'll have to go in the garden and be ready with a treat and kind word. Or when she starts to go on the walk, have a phrase (we use, "Be quick"!) which you say as she is going, then give her a treat, once she gets used to this phrase, try letting her out into your garden and saying the phrase. Good luck.
