I just looked at the ingredients to produce these. Its somewhat mind blowing that you would need so many just to make a sweet.

These are what we northeners call barmcakes (muffins is an alternative word for them, used in a very narrow band between Bolton and Rochdale).

Pontefract Cakes (we used to call them spanish buttons) are just liquorice, no aniseed, as I remember.

They're the ones, barry, soft liquorice about the size of a penny.

I've never heard of Poor Bens & am not fond of liquorice.  Lynne introduced me to barms & she didn't appreciate me calling them rolls or baps 🤭

Cap'n, I often get the Sheldon's ones from Tesco.
