Am I Wrong

My Grandaughter lives with us 90% of the time, for the last 4 weeks she comes home from school and sometimes brings her friend with her, straight from school and sometimes her friend comes round after an hour or so, I've told my Grandaughter I don't mind her friend coming round a couple of times a week but I don't want it every night, they sit in her bedroom they are no real trouble, apart from a bit of music, which I tell them to turn down if it gets loud, am I wrong not wanting this every night, or is it because I'm getting to old for all this.

the break is from having to take responsibility for other people's children. For your own children, fine.

They might be close family but they are certainly someone else's children. We felt much more responsible for our grandsons than for our own daughter. They are brought up to their own family rules and you have to take account of that.

Ultimately you find a balance you can cope with. You don't need stressing out, but on the other hand you don't want to look back in regret for not compromising and making the most of your time here with family.

Children in unhappy families often find escape/comfort/solace in the homes of others.
