Convictees of illegal file sharing

How were those people (prosecuted for illegal file sharing) caught? Has anyone in the UK been prosecuted?

i think i remember reading a story in the paper about a guy in the uk who was sent to jail for a few months for file sharing.

It's possible for the police to contact Internet Service Providers and find out what ISP address (a string of five numbers that identifies a user) relates to which address at a given time, and what websites it was visiting. Hence the police can easily track anyone they suspect of file sharing, paedophilia, fraud, or any other kind of internet-related crime.

The myth that the internet can't be policed is just that.
