Is Balmoral Going The Same Way As Osbourne?

Balmoral is to be opened to the general public.  Tours and afternoon teas will be available.

It seems the present generation of royals don't want it as a summer retreat.

Osbourne was given to the national by Queen Victoria's son.  How long before Balmoral goes the same way?

The late Queen only owned two properties privately ,Balmoral and Sandringham. The others are all part of the Crown Estates.

I think the current batch of Royals are less fond of grand palaces, and more likely to opt for the smaller, cosier, residences.  Being in prime hunting,shooting, fishing territory the scope to link Balmoral with other similar estates, creating a very upmarket hotel or similar may be very very tempting.   They may start by opening it to the public and commercializing in terms of tea rooms, gift shops, events, as they do with Sandringham (actually very little is open to the public) but I wonder if in line with their plans for a slimmed down monarchy a slimmed down property portfolio would make sense.
