Wouldn't it be great if the Persians were able to dump their extremist occupiers.

There is some difference of opinion as to whether the ruling authority is legit. Some suggest an attack could lead to a revolution. But it's quite a gamble while folk are already preoccupied with other conflicts.

Activists in countries like Iran have a habit of disappearing as soon as they talk of insurrection. You couldn't blame them for staying quiet.

what would a moderate leadership have done if Israel had murdered one of its diplomats?

What would Britain have done?

Question Author

A moderate leadership would not have been supporting terrorists and thus they would not have been involved in the first place.

ah well, if you're really rewriting history, Britain shouldn't have helped overthrow an elected leader and installed a puppet whose brutality brought a religious counter-revolution. I'm sort of hoping that, after a run of failures, it won't interfere in the Middle East again, but...

What are you on about jno, 1941? Hardly an "overthrow"!

So i'm going back a few months you are going back 71 years! Right oh! Getting a bit desparate to defend your terrorist buddies aren't we? The fact is Israel have only attacked because Iran have been supporting Hamas and this avoidable latest chapter started on Oct 7th.

iranian support for hamas is nothing new though... israel was doing that themselves until october 7th and had been for years

bombing a diplomatic building was a huge escalation and an extremely reckless thing to do. Israel chose to do that.

i think it is naive in the extreme to suppose that dissident iranians will welcome being bombed or invaded by the west. they won't. the best thing to do is to support them from the outside

What would Britain have done?

Probably stopped funding terror groups to strike at those who had just responded, oh but Britain isn't doing that in the first place, so it's a different situation.

I'm afraid Mozz is probably right, although many still do it.  Very brave people.

untitled:"i think it is naive in the extreme to suppose that dissident iranians will welcome being bombed or invaded by the west. they won't. the best thing to do is to support them from the outside" - I agree who suggested that? We should encourage the Persians to revolt and support them in every way. It can only improve the region and the world to get rid of a state run by these barbarians.

What are you on about jno, 1941? Hardly an "overthrow"!

jno is on about Iranian history which you should read about me old china !

overthrow? surely that should be "wongy-blow" (*) to show you are having a more serious discussion.

echo - no more middle east intervention

(*) or "nardy fing fong" - that is really portentous - goddamit where is rhyming slang when you need it

The mullahs put out rent-a-crowd the other day

main square - waving israel and palestinian flags

In some reports, dissident Iranians are shown welcoming an attack, with claims that it would spark a rebellion and they could then be allowed to get on with it. I'm unsure what percentage of Iranian citizens feel that way, though.

Alternatively it has been suggested by some that such an attack would lead to the toppling of the government even if Iranian citizens simply refused to support the government demands to enlist etc.

If you check out Tousi TV on YouTube you'll find he and his family is of Iranian heritage, and he pushes this point of view, perhaps predictably so.
